Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 drops food coloring green
  • 28 donut holes glazed
  • 0.25 cup candy-coated chocolates red and green
  • 1 candy large, yellow, star-shaped

Equipment

  • 1 12-inch round serving platter

Method

  1. Whisk the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and green food coloring in a medium bowl until the icing is thick but drizzleable.
  2. Arrange the 28 glazed donut holes in centered rows on a 12-inch round serving platter: 7 in the bottom row, then 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 to form a tree shape.
  3. Drizzle the icing over the donut holes in zigzags.
  4. Use small dabs of the remaining icing to attach the red and green candy-coated chocolates and the large yellow star-shaped candy at the top.
  5. Let the tree stand for 15 minutes, until the icing is set, before serving.

Notes

For neat rows, center each donut hole carefully before adding the icing. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 day; freezing is not recommended. Use a dairy-free milk in the icing for a dairy-free swap.
